Transfer Your Google Content to a Personal Gmail Account

Transfer Your Google Content to a Personal Gmail Account

After a user leaves Troy Schools, and their network account is deactivated, their Troy Google account will also be deactivated and content permanently deleted.  Is a user would like to keep their Google data (files, e-mails, etc), they should transfer it to a personal Google account prior to deactivation.  Below are directions on how to do this yourself.

Files on Troy's network drive locations you wish to save should either be copied to your Google Drive prior to this transfer, or copied to removable media, such as a flash drive, portable hard drive, or data CD/DVD.

To copy content that other people have shared with you, add those files to My Drive.

  1. Go to your Google Drive.
  2. On the left, click Shared with me.
  3. Click the files or folders you want to add to your drive.
  4. In the top right, click Add to My Drive.
  5. Click Organize.
  6. Choose the folder you want to add to.
  7. Click Move or Move here.

NOTE!  Google Drive through the schools has unlimited storage space.  Personal Drives have a limited amount of space.  If you have a large amount of data on your school Drive, your personal Drive may not be able to receive it all and return an error.  In this case, you may 1) try to delete files you don't need first, 2) download non-GSuite files (movies, pictures, Office files, PDF's) to a PC and delete them from Drive, 3) purchase more storage space from Google, or 4) use the Takeout option below to save your files to your computer or removable media.
