Ohio Law requires schools to provide instruction in social inclusion, violence prevention and suicide prevention to students in grades 6-12. Troy City Schools will provide grade-level appropriate instruction utilizing the Sandy Hook Promise program. Specifics of this program for each grade level can be found on the links below.
All 6-12 students are to be instructed on the following:
This law requires school districts to provide:
- 1 hour of training in Social Isolation using an evidence based program for every student in grades 6-12 every year;
- 1 hour of training in Safety Training and Violence Prevention using an evidence based program for every student in grades 6-12 every year; and
- 1 hour of training in Suicide Awareness and Prevention using an evidence based program for every student in grades 6-12 every year.
If you would like to excuse your child from participating in instruction in social inclusion, violence prevention and suicide prevention, you can locate the Opt Out forms by logging into your Powerschool Parent Portal account. Below are instructions on how to access the opt out form via your Powerschool Parent Portal account:
- From the district website, click “Parent Resources” and then click on “Check Student Grades.” Once you have logged into your Powerschool Parent Portal account, use the navigation tool on the left hand side of the screen to scroll to the bottom of the page to locate “Forms.” Click on “Forms” and scroll down to the “Annual Update J - Opt Outs.” Scroll down to “HB 123, Social Inclusion, Violence Prevention and Suicide Prevention Opt Out”. Select the “Opt Out” choice then click submit.
- From the Powerschool App, select More from the 3 dots at the bottom of the screen. Then select forms, then scroll down and select “Annual Update J - Opt Outs” and then click submit.
