SUBJECT: New Superintendent
During a special meeting Monday April 16th, the Troy City Board of Education approved a four-year contract to employ Chris Piper as their next Superintendent, effective August 1, 2018. Mr. Piper is currently the Superintendent of Triad Local School District. He will replace the retiring Eric Herman, who has served the school district as superintendent for the past 8 years.
The Board of Education initiated a superintendent search in February 2018. The Board received assistance in the process from K-12 Business Consulting, Inc., a superintendent search firm.
After developing a superintendent profile that was based on input received during seven (7) staff/community focus group sessions and from survey responses from 107 parents and community members, teachers, administrators, support staff members and students, the Board reviewed the credentials of 16 applicants, many of whom were recruited.
Board interviews with eight semi-final candidates were conducted on March 19 and 20, after a committee of 17 citizens and district employees first had the opportunity to ask each candidate questions during a Meet and Greet session. Two finalists were invited to return on April 10th and 11th to meet with community and district staff ahead of a second interview with the Board.
Doug Trostle, the Board President, stated “On behalf of the Troy City Board of Education, I am excited to welcome Chris Piper as the next Superintendent of the Troy City Schools. This has been a very difficult decision, due to the quality of our applicants. In collaboration with the input we received from our community participants, teachers, staff, and Administrative team, we are confident Chris’s passion for learning and his dedication to maximizing every student’s success will serve our district well. His success as a Superintendent represents his commitment to establishing a strong vision and direction for the Troy Schools. We look forward to working with Chris as we continue our quest, “In Pursuit of Excellence” for all of our students.
Mr. Piper has served the Triad Local School District as Superintendent for the past four (4) years. Previously, he was the Junior High Principal at Jonathan Alder and Middle School Principal for Canaan Middle School in Plain City. While serving as principal at Canaan, Mr. Piper also held the role of District Transportation Director. His administrative career started at Jonathan Alder High School as assistant principal and included the role of High School Athletic
Director. Mr. Piper was a High School Social Studies teacher for eight (8) years sharing his time between Wayne High School in Huber Heights and Jonathan Alder High School.
Mr. Piper received his bachelor’s degree in secondary education from Wright State University in 1997 and his master’s degree in education leadership from Wright State University in 2003. He is currently in the process of completing his Ph.D. program at University of Dayton

“I am extremely honored to have been selected as the next superintendent of Troy City Schools,” Mr. Piper stated. “Troy has a long tradition of excellence and I am looking forward to the opportunity of working collaboratively to take an already great school district to even higher levels.”
Mr. Piper will have a 15 day consulting contract to be utilized from April through July 31 for transition purposes into his new position and will officially begin his tenure as superintendent of Troy City Schools on August 1, 2018.
