At Troy City Schools, one of our greatest priorities is ensuring that all our students arrive safely at school each and every day.
To enhance our existing absence-checking procedure, we are introducing an automated student absence reporting system called SafeArrival. This system works with our existing SchoolMessenger system and reduces the time it takes to verify student attendance making it easier for you to report your child’s absence and easier for staff to respond to unexplained student absences.
Families are able to report and/or schedule absences through any of the following options:
- Using your mobile device, download and install the SchoolMessenger app from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store. The first time you use the app, select Sign Up to create your account using an email address we have on file for you. Select Attendance then Report an Absence.
- Go to the Troy City Schools website and click on Parent Resources at the top. You will find a link to SafeArrival on the page. The first time you use the website, select Sign Up to create your account. Once again, please remember to create your account using an email address we have on file for you. Select Attendance then Report an Absence.
- Call the toll-free number 877-521-7951 to report an absence using the automated phone system. This number is for Troy City Schools only.
A User Guide to the website/app with screenshots is located on the Troy website under Parent Resources as well. Or download the Guide here.
All three options are available 24 hours/day, 7 days a week. Future absences can be reported at any time. Same day absences, such as for illness, should be reported as early in the morning as possible.
If you forget to report your child’s absence, you will begin to receive automated notifications an hour and a half after school starts. These notifications will start with email and app notifications, then progress to texts, and finally via phone. The notifications will direct you on how you can confirm the absence through SafeArrival. Safeguards are in place to prevent students from reporting their own absence. If our system is unable to reach you, office staff will follow up.
We will start using this system districtwide on Monday, November 28th. You will not be able to report absences through the system until then. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your student’s school or the Board of Education office.
We’re pleased to launch this new resource for our families! Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we implement this new system.
