TROY -- A few strings were pulled in teaching Concord Elementary School first-grade students about the opera Monday.

The Opera Guild of Dayton brought the Opera Marionettes to Concord, putting on an educational show featuring the elaborate puppets.

“I think this was a great opportunity for our students to get exposed to the arts and culture in a fun way they can relate to,” Concord Elementary School principal Dan Hake said. “We are very grateful to have the Opera Guild of Dayton here and for our students to get a chance to see this.”

The show featured characters from such notable operas as “Carmen,” “I Pagliacci,” “The Magic Flute” and “La boheme.”

Students learned about the vocal ranges that opera singers employ, as well as the type of instruments that make up an opera’s orchestra.
