THS band going to London, England in 2023

The Troy High School marching band has accepted an invitation to perform in the London's New Year's Day Parade on Jan. 1, 2023.

The parade is one of the biggest New Year's Day events in the world and is viewed by more than 450 million people every year either in person, on television or online. It will be broadcast on PBS in the United States.

Dignitaries from the parade and the city of London were in the Troy High School auditorium to present the formal invitation to the Trojans.

"We're very excited; it's just the chance of a lifetime for the kids," Troy High School band director Kathy McIntosh said. "They never come back the same. It changes them. We've had students go into international studies because of it. We've had students travel to London by themselves later on because of it. It's just a great experience for them."

This will be the fifth time the Troy band has performed in England, with the first visit coming on January 1, 2002.
