All GATE students will be completing Independent Studies as their unit of learning during the last quarter. Each student chooses a topic of their own interest, researches it in-depth, and then writes a research paper and creates products to demonstrate his/her learning. This learning experience allows the students to take control of their learning by choosing their own learning topic and which products best meet their learning style. The culmination of these studies will be presentations on the last day of GATE. Students may work on these projects at home if they wish (or need), but will have over an hour each week at GATE to work on them as well. Please let me know if you have any questions about our Independent Studies.
Ohio Math League Contest
The 4th and 5th grade GATE students will compete once again in the Ohio Mathematics League Contest. This contest involves students solving math word problems - 30 in 30 minutes! We will doing several practice versions prior to the real one to familiarize the students with the format and expectations. Students are allowed to use a calculator if they wish. Keep posted for our class results after April 15th.
